What do I have to do to design operating systems for a living?

What classes should I take in college? I want to for example design the next Operating System for Microsoft, and maybe in the future create my own company, for computer software and OS's.

1. You seem to know what you want to do, but definitely a degree in computer programming (Computer Science) is where you need to start. Get a 4.0 GPA and get an internship for Microsoft, then maybe you will be able to be on the team. It's a tough job to get. Best of luck to you.
2. If you can get into any internships do it. For the computer programming field you need lot I mean LOTs of experience. My degree is in computer information systems you want one in computer science. Take as many programming classes as you can. Hope you are good in Math.
3. Short answer: Start coding. Learn C and assembly and start hacking. No amount of taking classes or reading will help until you start trying to do things on your own.
