How many operating systems can be on a hard drive?
I have four operating system install disks and I am wondering how many you can put on a hard drive so that they will all work properly...

- get partition magic and make 4 partitions and install each one and then you shall have all 4 operating systems on one harddrive
- I think, 2!!! You can download for example UBUNTU and Use by side of Windows!!! Merry Christmas Ninos
- It depends on how many partitions you have on your hard drive. Four partitions will work fine if you have that many operating systems. I had 16 different Mac OS installs at work.
- It depends on the size of the hard drive. There's no limit to how many operating systems you can have as long as there is available space. What also becomes tricky is trying to set up a multi-boot loader with so many different operating systems. Dual booting is no problem, but beyond that you'll need to learn to use lilo or grub if you're installing linux or whatever kind of boot loader will work with the mix of operating systems you're planning on using. But, so long as there is available space on the drive to create all the partitions you need, there is no limit.
- Only one can be installed at a time of course, but if you leave them packed up...you can have as many as your hard drive can hold memory wise.
- if your drive is partitioned with all ext3 FS, you can have unlimited to the extent of the space on your drive. if you include NTFS FS on any partition, you can only have up to 255. You will need to use grub or win.ini to manage your bootloading.
