What operating systems are compatible with a Playstation 3?

I know that Yellow Dog Linux has been released, and I was wondering if Windows XP Home was compatible with the PS3. I have both Home and Professional installation discs. Are there any other operating systems compatible with the PS3?

  1. Yellowdog linux is developed for it. http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/products/ydl/ Try that. I have used yellowdog on my mac as well. It is really nice to use. AFAIK XP won't work on PS3 directly but emulators can do it. Xubuntu may also work on ps3. Happy experimenting and let me know your results!!
  2. You *could* use XP through qemu, but it is ungodly slow. You can use any linux distribution that is Power PC compatible. This includes Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE.
  3. Anything pretty much but recommended would be something in the Linux field such as yellow dog, fedora, and others
  4. Members of Linux family are compatible with PS3. As for Windows, yes, there is a way to install Windows on PS3, but that Windows must be installed on top of Linux anyway. It'll run slowly and unstable. You can't play 3d games on it.
