What is the best / popular programming language to go study at the moment?

I want to study a programming language so that i could easily get a job.

  3. depends on what type of job you want. I would start with java, or c, then work my way up to c++, c#, cobol, visual basic, visual c++

  5. One of the most popular is Java, but I'm not sure why. It has far more cons than pros in my opinion. Personally I would opt for Delphi - but that's because I was taught to code in PASCAL... As for "the best" language - don't ask such silly questions. There isn't a "best" anything. Rawlyn. p.s. ace2go - it is possible to "work your way up" to Visual Basic? Surely to do that you would need to find something lower than VB, and I really can't think of one!...
  6. Although ASP.NET is very cool, try an open source language like PHP or Python. More organizations are turning to open source languages because, first of all, they are free, open plat-formed, and highly customizable.

It really depends on what kind of programming that you want to do. 1) Web Programming: XML, Java, Javascript, CSS, ColdFusion, ASP .NET, and PHP. 2) Game programming: Python 3) Business software: VB, VB .NET, and C++ 4) Math related stuff: FORTRAN (yes, it is an old software but it is widely used in math related stuff) And there are many other languages for many other fields in programming (for example, assembly language, LISP, ProLog...etc.)
  8. You can always get a job as a programmer. I advice you to learn the .net framework, and specialize in C#. It's not only most solid for windows programming, but later you will easily combine it with asp .net to make enterprises web applications/services. Try to learn c++ on the side, it is a must as a programmer; c++ will help you migrate to java and php any time.

I can advice you to learn java and c++ as they are quite strong in comparison to other languages as others were derived from c++ and Java is quite good when it comes to creating network applications but if you want a simple but strong User interface computer language go for VB as it has the strongest gui creation I know unless there is another.
  10. I would most certainly advocate C#. I use this for all my development, whether or not it be on the web using ASP.NET or a pure windows application. Its as easy to use as VB and almost as robust as C++. Also, using the MS Express editions of visual studio for free (www.msdn.com/express) is fantastic. Most jobs (in london anyway!) for programers now seem to be geared to c# and asp.net

It really depends on what you want to do with it. if you want a good, modern,object oriented langauge then Java is your best bet or, maybe C# if the .net framework s what you want (big microsft thing)i. If, you really want to be a great programmer, then you will have to learn either C or C++, really. Of course, that asumes you want to be a software programmer! If you want web, I suggest HTML, JavaScript, PHP, ASP.Net, Java and Flash. If you want cross platform haeven Python or Java. Each is good at different things, read into them, and see which has what you want!
  12. Visual Basic was good but it was overstepped by Java. Java is better but Visual Basic .NET is a rival and is stepping up its fight. VB syntax and code structure is easier to understand. Download Visual Basic .NET: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/default.aspx Java is an alternative and would give an advantage in the business and software development world but Java syntax is more complex and the structure is slightly different for example the code is case sensitive and a lot of the structure can be confusing for beginners. Having said that; Objects Forst by David J. Barnes & Michael Kölling is exemplary at introducing the language. So if you have the confidence to test your abilities and find it easy to grasp new concepts I would strongly recommend java. It will be installed with the JDK you can uninstall it later.   14. It really depends on what kind of programming you like and interested in: I'm an IT student and knows about C++,JAVA,C#.NET,ASP.NET,HTML,SQL,.... I think C# is the first choice then JAVA. For Web Programming: XML, Javascript, CSS, ColdFusion, ASP .NET, and PHP.
  15. I have learned html and javasript in school, and I liked them. I am currently taking VisualBasic.Net in school right now. It is up to you to decide what language you want to learn. I also recommend that take a look at cgi/perl, and c. Hope this helps, Brian N.
